Stop & Smell the Roses

In life we get so wrapped up in everything and everyone that we forget to stop and smell the roses. The kids need to get to football practice or ballet class. You’re working 40, 50, 60 hours a week to make sure you have enough money to pay bills (see Living vs Existing) or between home, work, kids or church you have never stopped and enjoyed the moment, or this thing called life.

Confession: Ever since I started working, I ALWAYS had AT LEAST two jobs. That’s because I get bored easily or I’m trying to save up for something or to go somewhere. There was a point that I had a full time job, a part time job, in school working on my Masters (3.9 GPA) and taking a class at H & R Block. I have no earthly idea how I managed all of that. Between work and school I was always thinking of my next move. I always had/have the thought that you can never get too comfortable with what you have and your situation because this thing called life will throw you a curve ball and you will not know how to handle it. Plus, I wanted to retire by 30…. (I turned 30 in February and I’m nowhere near retiring).

I have always been so busy planning, planning, and planning some more for the future, I never enjoyed the moments and accomplishments that I have achieved. Even though I was working and in school, I still felt unaccomplished. I felt like I was behind in life. These feelings caused me to fall in a deep depression. After finally opening up to a friend, which I never do, they didn’t have any idea that I felt this way. Outside looking in they thought I had everything all together. I was their motivation. They started to name all of my accomplishments (most before the age of 25) and finally it hit me. I am sooo Blessed. I have accomplished so many things that the average person is still working on. By me always planning my next move, I forgot to enjoy the moments that were happening right in front of me. Ever since that conversation I started looking at life differently. Yes, I still have two jobs and two businesses, but it’s for different reasons now. <-this is me justifying it lol.

Honestly, part of the reason why I work two jobs is because in my mind I think I’m Carrie Bradshaw (Sex in the City). I just LOVE to shop and travel. I mean what female doesn't?! These trips aren't going to pay themselves! On the other hand, the reason why I launched The Alisha Yolanda Experience was because I wanted to help other people live out their dreams and passion. I not only want people to be the CEO over their business, but also their lives. This is my passion so it doesn't seem like work.

As an entrepreneur, make sure you take in your accomplishments. You came so far from it just being a dream. Now it's a reality. Have you thought about your success or the obstacles that you overcame as a business owner? No one said it would be easy, but you came this far. CONGRATULATIONS! You deserve it!!!
